Accessibility statement for the Syntalyze chat widget.
The chat widget is fully compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, level AA. This statement covers the widget an organisation places on its website: the chat button, the conversation, step-by-step guides and the forms inside the chat.
Using the chat
You should be able to:
- open, use and close the chat with a keyboard alone, and close it with the Escape key
- hear each new reply announced by a screen reader, once, without losing your place in the message box
- see where you are, because every button, link and field shows a clear focus outline
- zoom to 400% or use a screen 320 pixels wide, and the chat fills the screen without sideways scrolling
- read every part of the chat in strong contrast, whatever colours the organisation has chosen
- fill in forms whose fields are labelled, say when they are required, and explain any mistake next to the field
- use the chat without time pressure: a conversation stays open for 48 hours
- turn off animation by setting your device to reduce motion
The chat always shows that you are talking to an automated assistant. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Compliance status
The widget is fully compliant with the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.
What the organisation is responsible for
The organisation using Syntalyze writes the content the chat shows, and it publishes its own website around the widget. Those parts are covered by the organisation's accessibility statement, not this one. In particular:
- Images in step-by-step guides. Each step's text gives the instruction, so the widget shows screenshots as illustrations, without a separate text alternative. Where a screenshot carries information the text does not, the organisation should add it to the step text.
- Videos. Any video with speech that an organisation adds to a guide needs captions.
- Plain language. Answers are written from the organisation's own pages, so their clarity follows the source content.
- Other ways to get help. The organisation should keep phone, email or face-to-face routes open and link to them from the chat.
Reporting a problem
If you have a problem using the chat on an organisation's website, please tell that organisation; it will pass it to us. Organisations, and anyone else, can contact us directly at hello@mg12.design with "Accessibility" in the subject. We will reply within five working days.
If you are not happy with how a public sector organisation responds to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (in Northern Ireland, the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland). The Equality and Human Rights Commission enforces the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.
How we tested the widget
The widget was last tested on 26 October 2026 by MG12 Design. We tested:
- every WCAG 2.2 A and AA success criterion, by reviewing the widget's code and behaviour
- automatically with axe-core across the widget's states: closed, open, mid-conversation, forms with errors, step-by-step guides, alerts, a pale organisation colour, and a 320 by 256 pixel screen
- with a keyboard alone, at 400% zoom and with reduced motion
- colour contrast of every fixed colour, and of text placed on organisation-chosen colours
Accessibility checks are part of the widget's automated test suite, which runs on every change.
